The Larson Girls (again)

I have been doing a terrible job of keeping up on the blog recently.
My friends Charlie and Laurel Larson have yet again invited me into their lives to photograph their beautiful daughters.

What cute girls!

Ryan and Michelle’s Wedding | Janesville, Wi

So the year begins!

Allison and I enjoyed a weekend in Wisconsin for our first wedding of the year. I love being able to take my wife to work. She is my best friend and a great photographer. We were honored to be able to shoot a wedding for a couple who has gone to Drake University here in Des Moines.

Winter weddings are scary to me because there is little chance that pictures will work out outdoors. God knew what he was doing when he made the world and the sun remains my favorite light source. :)
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the location of the wedding because the space was beautiful. The country club had recently been redone and it looked great and was warm!

All in all, we had one the the best weddings and are so excited about the photos. Here is a sample of what I have worked on so far. The full gallery will be available later this week I bet.

my photos go viral…

Here is Gawker.com

I know it isn’t a huge deal, but I shot some pictures for my friends the other day and it seems that they went viral. The gawker link had 30,000+ view and the Reddit article has 192,000+ view so that is kind of cool.

Allspice

I try to spend most of my time on this blog talking about wedding and engagement photography but I am really excited about a project that I have been working on at my job 8/7 Central. Allspice is a new business that has come to the East Village of Des Moines. They have been a client of mine for a few months now. Alex, the owner, (@allspiceguy) has become a regular in our shop as we have been working with him. He and his wife have developed a real gem. Allspice is a “spice shop” with a olive oil and vinegar tasting bar. I have never really seen anything like their shop before. I got to do alot of the original photography that they enlarged on their walls.

Well, we have finally launched their website and I am really excited about how the website and the photos have turned out. Check them out here, allspice.

Nikon F – maybe I am a bad person

So I am just going to say it. I have never shot on film.
Seriously, Never. Never developed photos in a dark room either. I never got into photography when I was younger (I didn’t have the patience I guess.) So the other day after I picked up a new Nikon D7000 I thought to myself, “Self, I should shoot some film.” SO I purchased my first film camera.

A Nikon F Photomic FTn from 1968-74ish.

I bought some Velva 50 and some Astia 100 to get going. I will post updates as I go.

Also, the d7000 is pretty sick so far.

San Francisco, long overdue

In September, Allison and I took our second serious vacation of our marriage to San Francisco. Unlike our honeymoon though, we took our best friends Andy and Ari with us!  I put some pictures up on my facebook but I wanted to put some of our favorites up on here as well.

Seemed relevant to post this.

We looked a few places for the “Full House” houses. Apparently, there is some debate. The second picture is of the “painted ladies” which are for sure in one of the openers but the opening sequence changes in some of the newer seasons. FYI, did you know that the show was never filmed actually in San Francisco except that intro part? That crushed Allison when she found out it was not shot inside one of those houses.

My college roommate Dan took us sailing in the bay! AMAZING!!!

We spent a few mornings at La Boulange Bakery. It reminded me a lot of La Mie here in Des Moines.

Blown up…

If you follow my web-design work at all, this may be redundant but I recently go to do some commercial work for my salon, salonspaW #shamelessplug and the photos have been blown up to be 8 feet by 8 feet. I think in a previous blog I mentioned them, but here are the photos to prove it!

And finally, here are the originals right out of the camera. Tons of fun to see my stuff this big!
